Peyton's Place offers a variety of canoe and raft trips on the Illinois River to meet the needs of every group or individual wanting to enjoy a float trip. There are plenty of canoes, rafts and kayaks to handle any size group up to about 1,300 persons. Rafts are the very durable Midwest models constructed of Hypalon and Star models constructed of PVC. Both materials are resistant to tearing and punctures. The majority of the rafts have a capacity of up to 6 persons. A limited amount of 2-4 person and a few 7-10 person rafts are available. Canoes are the Osagian models of aluminum construction which are lightweight, very durable and capable of carrying paddlers and gear downriver. Kayaks are available in either single or tandem varieties manufactured by Jackson Recreation. The kayaks are sit on top with molded backrests.
Trips can be arranged for either approximately 6 or 10 miles. Rates include shuttles to the put-in and/or from the takeout, boats, paddles and Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs, also known as life jackets). Canoe rates are based upon two persons per canoe, while raft rates are based upon a minimum of four persons per 6-man, two persons per 4-man, and seven persons per 10-man raft. Children must be over 2 yrs old and 33 inches tall.
The Rate Table below provides information on standard trips available from Peyton's Place, including approximate distances and per person rates based upon the boat occupancy stipulations in the previous paragraph. All pricing includes tax, shuttle, paddles and life perservers, there will be no additional charges added to the prices below.
FOR YOUR FLOATING SAFETY AND PLEASURE PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
Always Wear Your Life Preserver (PFD)
Watch the river ahead and avoid obstacles
Stay to the inside of curves
Avoid logs, do not grab branches
Secure ice chest contents and belongings
Wear old river shoes, sunscreen, cheap sunglasses, and a hat
Please obey ALL No Trespassing signs and respect private property rights at all times
Help keep YOUR river clean - if you pack it in, then pack it out!
Children 12 years and under must wear life jackets, all participants must have an accessible life preserver (not tied to vessel)
No strong spirits (hard alcohol/liquor) on river - Wine, beer and light beer in original non-glass packaging allowed
Public intoxication and obscene behavior could result in a night in the county jail
GLASS, STYROFOAM, and JELLO SHOT CONTAINERS ARE PROHIBITED ON THE RIVER
Tying Canoes, Rafts, and/or Kayaks together is PROHIBITED!!
No person shall carry an ice chest that is not secured to prevent spilling its contents or larger than 52-quart capacity on a scenic river.
No firearms or weapons
Violators are subject to fines of $250.00
No Jumping from Bridge $1,000.00 Fine
GRDA Officers patrol the river and surrounding area. Participants agree to allow Peyton's Place and Officers to inspect ice chests, bags, purses or other items for the presence of banned and/or illegal items.
